Why Undyed Alpine Wool Makes a Better Sauna Hat
Alpine mountain wool comes from sheep raised high in the European Alps, where the cold makes their fleece dense and resilient. I use undyed, carded wool from Tyrol, from small farms that do not practice mulesing. It is washed with water only: no bleaching, no dye baths, no chemical softeners.
That matters in a sauna. Dense wool holds a steady layer around your head, breathes as you sweat, and stays comfortable even when wet, so the same hat goes from a 176°F (80°C) sauna to a cold plunge and back. Nothing synthetic heats up against your skin or hair. It is wool as the sheep grew it, and a trace of the Alpine meadow often stays in it.

What does a wool sauna hat do?
Does a sauna hat protect my hair?
The dense wool helps protect your hair from drying out in the heat. The tall form also has room for long hair, so you can tuck it in comfortably.
Can I wear it in an infrared sauna or steam room?
Yes. Dense undyed wool contains no synthetic fibers, so there’s nothing to melt or break down in the heat. My hats are worn in traditional, infrared and steam saunas, banya and hot tents.
Can I wear it in a cold plunge?
Yes. Wool stays comfortable even when wet, so you can wear the same hat from a 176°F (80°C) sauna into the cold plunge and back. Rinse it with cool water afterward and air dry it flat.
Why is the hat so tall?
The height is deliberate. A standard hat is about 15 in (38 cm) tall, leaving space between the heat and your head. You can wear it long, fold the brim, or trim the edge. The felted wool does not fray.
Yes, almost all adult heads. The standard fit is 22–24.4 in (56–62 cm) around the head. The hat molds gently to your head with wear. If you need a size outside this range, write to me before ordering.
Will it fit my head?
Undyed wool is wool as the sheep grew it: no dyes, no fixing agents, no chemical finishes. It keeps its natural lanolin, and the color comes from the sheep, in seven natural shades. In the heat of a sauna, nothing but wool touches your skin and hair.
Why undyed wool?
The wool is washed with water only, so a tiny trace of dry Alpine meadow sometimes stays among the fibers, even in the hanging loop. I could take it out. I’d rather not.
Why is there a little grass in the wool?
Wool naturally resists odor, so frequent washing isn’t needed. Simply air it out after use. When needed, rinse gently with cool water, reshape while damp, and air dry flat away from direct heat. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
How do I care for my sauna hat?
Each hat is hand-sculpted after you order, in about 14 days, then takes about 10 days to reach the US. Delivery is $29 per hat, with duties and taxes included, so there’s nothing extra to pay on arrival.
How long does it take, and do you ship to the US?
Yes. The personalized hat has your chosen initial or a simple symbol needle felted into the wool, and the set of two suits couples or friends who sauna together. Tell me in the checkout notes if it’s a gift, and please order early if you need it by a date.

Undyed Alpine Wool
I work with Tyrolean mountain wool from Alpine farms that do not practice mulesing. It is left undyed and unbleached, washed only with water, and brought to my studio as naturally as possible.
The colors come from the sheep themselves. Subtle differences in tone and texture remain in each finished piece.
Look closely and you may find a tiny trace of dry Alpine meadow caught among the fibers, even in the hanging loop.
Sometimes, the meadow stays in.
Sculpted by My Hands
Every hat begins with loose wool fibers. Using water and friction, I slowly bring them together into one seamless piece.
Each hat takes hours of hand-sculpting, followed by natural drying. No machines, glue or synthetic binders.
My grandmother felted boots in a small village. Working with wool connects me to that family craft, while the shapes I create today are my own.

The standard fit is approximately 22–24.4 in / 56–62 cm, suitable for most adult heads.
You can also carefully trim the edge if you prefer a shorter hat. The felted wool does not fray.

Caring for Your Wool Sauna Hat
Rinse gently with cool water when needed. Reshape while damp and air dry flat. Allow your hat to dry fully before storing it.
Avoid hot washing water, rubbing during cleaning and machine washing, which can cause further felting and shrinkage.
Making and Worldwide Delivery
Your hat is sculpted to order. Please allow approximately 14 days before dispatch, followed by shipping.
Transit to the USA and Canada is about 10 days after dispatch. These times are estimates; delivery elsewhere varies by destination.
Worldwide delivery is $29 per hat, with duties and taxes included.
