What is Tyrolean mountain wool — and why does it matter?

Tyrolean mountain wool comes from sheep raised at high altitude in the European Alps. Cold climate produces naturally dense, lanolin-rich fiber - thicker and more thermally stable than lowland wool. Feltforma sources only mulesing-free fleece from small farms, then water-washes it with natural olive oil soap. No bleaching. No dye baths. No chemical softeners.

The result is wool in its purest state - exactly what you want touching your skin in a 176°F (80°C) sauna or an ice bath.

  • 100% Undyed Tyrolean Mountain Wool - water-washed, lanolin-preserved

  • Mulesing-Free · Sourced from Small European Alpine Farms

  • Hand-Sculpted Seamless Form - No Glue · No Stitching · No Plastic

  • Fully Compostable - Plastic-Free from Fiber to Finished Product

Seamless Sculpted Construction

Unlike mass-produced gear that is stitched or glued, FELTFORMA uses a hand-sculpting process that creates a continuous fiber structure. This seamless design ensures maximum thermal insulation and structural integrity, even under the intense heat and moisture of a sauna.

The FELTFORMA Difference: Pure Wool, Proven Craft

Undyed Tyrolean Mountain Wool

We source mulesing-free wool from small European farms, maintaining its natural integrity. Our wool is exclusively water-washed and felted with natural olive oil soap, avoiding all bleaching, dye baths, or chemical softeners to preserve the lanolin and the wool's natural ability to regulate temperature. Because our wool remains in its purest state, you may occasionally find tiny fragments of dry mountain grass - a natural hallmark of raw, minimally processed organic fiber.

Individually Formed in Lithuania

Every item is handcrafted in our Vilnius studio using traditional wet felting techniques. This artisanal approach allows for controlled wool density and intentional structure, resulting in durable, long-term gear that synthetic alternatives cannot match.

100% Glue-Free & Plastic-Free

Our commitment to purity means zero synthetic padding, hidden adhesives, or factory rubber blends. We use only pure wool and natural caoutchouc rubber for our soles, ensuring your gear is as healthy for your body as it is for the planet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a wool sauna hat do?

1

An undyed wool sauna hat helps regulate heat during sauna sessions. It protects your head from overheating so heat builds more evenly through the body, allowing steadier sessions and clearer recovery.

Are your slippers glue-free
and plastic-free?

2

Yes.

The wool upper is natural and free from synthetic fibers. Undyed styles are made from pure Tyrolean mountain wool washed only with water. We also offer dyed wool slippers, colored using non-toxic dyes without acid treatment. The wool is not chemically stripped, and you may occasionally notice small traces of natural fibers, even a bit of dry grass — a sign of minimally processed wool.

Optional soles are made from natural caoutchouc rubber and applied without synthetic adhesives. No factory rubber blends or plastic structure are used.

The materials remain simple: natural wool and natural rubber.

Do you offer wide fit wool slippers?

3

Yes.

I offer tailored wide fit wool slippers and can adjust for foot width, arch height, and specific measurements. After ordering, I may request foot length and width measurements to ensure accurate shaping.

How does sizing work for the wool slippers?

4

After you place an order, I will personally contact you to confirm sizing.

For the best fit, I may ask you to measure your bare foot length and width. This allows me to shape the slippers more accurately, especially for wide feet or if you are between sizes.

If you are unsure at any point, you can always write to me and consult. I’m happy to guide you so the fit feels right.

How do I clean a wool sauna hat or wool slippers?

5

Wool is naturally odor-resistant, so frequent washing is usually not necessary. Simply air them out after use.

If needed, gently hand wash in cool water with a mild wool detergent. Press out excess water with a towel, reshape while damp, and let them air dry away from direct heat. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.

With proper care, dense wool keeps its structure and lasts for years.

Why choose undyed wool?

8

Undyed wool avoids synthetic dyes and chemical finishes. Many people prefer natural fibers, especially in high heat environments like a sauna. Dense Tyrolean mountain wool remains breathable, resilient, and well suited for both heat exposure and daily wear.

Are sauna hats suitable for infrared and
steam saunas?

6

Yes.

Dense wool performs well in traditional sauna, steam, and infrared environments.

Can slippers be worn outdoors?

7

Slippers with natural rubber soles are suitable for indoor and light outdoor use. Felt-sole versions are best for indoor wear.

Natural wool. Structured use. Quiet longevity.
