This hat is hand-sculpted once, for you, after you order. I shape it in my Vilnius studio from raw undyed Tyrolean mountain wool, hand-felted with water only, and it takes 14 days to form properly. That's not a delay. That's the process.

Industrial felting compresses fiber by machine in hours. I use water, friction, and time. Some people call this hand-felting. I call it hand-sculpting, because I shape each hat slowly by hand. The result is a hat with structural memory: it holds its shape and molds gently to your head.
The 14 days come from the way I was taught to respect wool. My grandmother felted boots in a Lithuanian village, and nobody hurried the wool there either.

For the sauna and the cold plunge
Wool stays comfortable when it is wet, and dense wool keeps a little warmth around your head between the sauna and the cold water. Rinse the hats with cool water afterward and air dry them flat. With the wool loop, you can hang them to air. A hat adds comfort. It does not make the sauna or the cold plunge safer, so follow your own limits and leave when you feel unwell.
Why is this hat so tall?
The height is deliberate. A standard hat stands about 15 in (38 cm) tall. Heat gathers high in a sauna, and your head takes it first. A tall hat rests on you lightly, with dense wool around you and space above you, and it has room for long hair. You can fold the brim, wear it long, or trim the edge. The wool does not fray.
The meadow stays in
Look closely and you may find a trace of dry Alpine meadow in the wool. The wool is washed with water only, so it stays, even in the loop. I could take it out. I'd rather not.

What is Alpine mountain wool - and why does it matter?
HANDMADE IN VILNIUS, LITHUANIA — SINCE 2008
Alpine mountain wool comes from sheep raised at high altitude in the European Alps. I use undyed, carded wool from Tyrol, from small farms that do not practice mulesing. It is washed with water only: no bleaching, no dye baths, no chemical softeners.
The result is wool as the sheep grew it, which is what I want touching my head in an 80°C (176°F) sauna or a cold plunge. A trace of the Alpine meadow often stays in it.

The wool upper contains no synthetic fibers. Undyed styles are made from pure Alpine mountain wool, water-washed only. Optional soles are made from natural caoutchouc rubber, applied without synthetic adhesives. No factory rubber blends, no hidden plastic structure. The materials are simple: natural wool and natural rubber.

How do I clean a wool sauna hat or wool slippers?

Wool is naturally odor-resistant — frequent washing is not necessary. Simply air out after use. If needed, hand wash in cool or lukewarm water with mild wool detergent. Press out excess water gently, reshape while damp, and air dry flat away from direct heat. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. With proper care, dense Alpine wool maintains its structure for years of regular use.
Why choose undyed wool?

Undyed wool retains its natural lanolin - the fiber's built-in thermal regulator. Chemical dyeing strips lanolin and alters the fiber structure, reducing performance. In extreme heat, dyed wool also carries the risk of chemical pigments activating on the scalp. Undyed Alpine mountain wool contains no pigments, no fixing agents, no chemical finishes. Only fiber in its natural state.
Are sauna hats suitable for infrared and
steam saunas?

Yes - dense undyed wool is completely stable under infrared radiation. It contains no synthetic fibers that could degrade or off-gas under infrared heat. This matters more in infrared than traditional sauna because infrared penetrates materials more deeply.
