The treble clef in these photos was made for a customer in Seattle, on a sauna hat and a matching pair of wool slippers with a mustard lining, at her request. I play the violin myself, so felting that symbol felt close to home. I could almost hear the sound of my violin while I worked.

A symbol or pattern – $35. A moon, a star, a heart, or a circular spiral, up to 3 in (7.5 cm) across. For two symbols, such as a star and a moon, add two.
A short word or name – $85. Up to 5 letters, in small letters about 0.75 in (2 cm) tall.
A longer word or name – $135. 6 to 10 letters, in small letters about 0.75 in (2 cm) tall.
Letters take far more time and care to felt cleanly than a symbol, so words are priced accordingly. Each letter is felted by hand, so it has its own soft, handmade character.
Your design is felted in undyed wool too, in one of the same seven natural shades. Choose a color that contrasts with your hat, so your symbol or name is easy to see:
On a dark hat (1 Deep Earth Black, 4 Chestnut Cocoa): choose 7 Milk Cloud White, 2 Soft Sand Beige or 5 Morning Fog Gray.
On a light hat (7 Milk Cloud White, 2 Soft Sand Beige, 3 Warm Honey Beige, 5 Morning Fog Gray): choose 1 Deep Earth Black, 4 Chestnut Cocoa or 6 Stone Cliff Gray.
On a mid-gray hat (6 Stone Cliff Gray): choose 1 Deep Earth Black or 7 Milk Cloud White.

Every design goes on the upper part of the hat. I sculpt my sauna hats generously long, so you can fold the brim to suit you, and a design near the bottom could disappear into the fold. Placed higher, it stays visible however you wear your hat.

I needle felt your design into the wool while I sculpt your hat. Barbed needles work the fibers directly into the felt, so nothing is glued, printed or stitched on top.
The design is the same undyed wool as the hat itself. No dyes, no thread, no adhesive. Wool all the way through.
Add your design within 2 days of your hat order, using the same name, before I start sculpting. If I have already begun, write to me first and I will tell you honestly whether it is still possible.

Can you put a name on a sauna hat?
Yes. Choose the option for your letter count: up to 5 letters for $85, or 6 to 10 letters for $135. Letters are small, about 0.75 in (2 cm) tall.
What color will my design be?
You choose. The design is felted in undyed wool, in any of the seven natural shades. A contrasting color is easiest to see, for example white on a black hat. Or let me choose a contrasting shade for you.
Can I add a name to a sauna cap I already ordered?
Yes, if I haven’t started sculpting yet. Add this design within 2 days of your hat order, using the same name.
Why can’t the design go near the brim?
Because many people fold the brim. On the upper part of the hat, your design stays visible however you wear it.
Will the design come off in the sauna?
No. It is needle felted into the wool, the same material as the hat, so it does not peel, fade or wash off like a patch or print.
Does a custom design add time?
A little. Allow a few extra days on top of the usual 14 days of making, then about 10 days delivery to the US.
Is there extra delivery cost?
No. The design is made on your hat, so it ships with it. Delivery is $29 per hat, with duties and taxes included.
