A tall felt sauna hat, hand-sculpted from raw undyed Alpine wool with water only: no glue, no polyester, no dyes. The height leaves space between the heat and your head, so you can stay in longer, in comfort, and the dense wool helps protect your hair from drying out in the heat.

Somewhere in the Austrian Alps, nearly 10,000 feet up, a Tyrolean sheep grazes a meadow it helps preserve. Twice a year it is shorn. The wool travels to Dovilė's studio, where she sculpts it, by hand, into one hat. For you.

HANDMADE IN EUROPE — SINCE 2008

Why Undyed Alpine Wool Makes a Better Sauna Hat

Alpine mountain wool comes from sheep raised high in the European Alps, where the cold makes their fleece dense and resilient. I use undyed, carded wool from Tyrol, from small farms that do not practice mulesing. It is washed with water only: no bleaching, no dye baths, no chemical softeners.

That matters in a sauna. Dense wool holds a steady layer around your head, breathes as you sweat, and stays comfortable even when wet, so the same hat goes from a 176°F (80°C) sauna to a cold plunge and back. Nothing synthetic heats up against your skin or hair. It is wool as the sheep grew it, and a trace of the Alpine meadow often stays in it.

ABOUT FELTFORMA

Hand-Sculpted Wool. Made slowly, since 2008

From my studio in Vilnius, Lithuania, I hand-sculpt each sauna hat from undyed, carded Alpine mountain wool from Tyrol, sourced from small European farms. Every hat is formed individually by hand, through traditional wet felting.

No polyester. No hidden glue. No plastic structure.

Wool, water, pressure, and time.

I have worked this way since 2008, slowly, and each piece is built to last. I hand-sculpt wool slippers the same way.

What They Say

  • The structure is exceptional. They hold their shape, regulate temperature beautifully, and feel supportive without stiffness.

    —Beth C., California

  • Finally, a true wide fit that doesn’t look bulky. The density and craftsmanship are on another level.

    — M.H., New York

  • I use mine for sauna and cold plunge sessions. The insulation is consistent and noticeably more stable than lighter wool hats.

    — Madison, Colorado

  • You can feel the difference immediately. Dense, breathable, and made with intention.

Questions

What does a wool sauna hat do?

A wool sauna hat protects your scalp from overheating during sauna sessions. Heat rises and concentrates at head level - without insulation, your brain signals thermal overload before the rest of your body benefits from the heat. Dense felted wool slows heat penetration while remaining breathable, allowing longer, steadier sessions. In cold plunge, the same wool structure moderates rapid cooling and reduces thermal shock.

Yes - completely.
The wool upper contains no synthetic fibers. Undyed styles are made from pure Alpine mountain wool, water-washed only. Optional soles are made from natural caoutchouc rubber, applied without synthetic adhesives. No factory rubber blends, no hidden plastic structure. The materials are simple: natural wool and natural rubber.

Are your slippers glue-free
plastic-free and polyester-free?

Do you offer wide fit wool slippers?

Yes - wide fit is our specialty.
Every slipper is custom-made to your measurements, with adjustable width, arch height, and foot proportions. After ordering, Dovile contacts you personally to confirm sizing before production begins. We accommodate wide feet, bunions, high arches, and sizes up to US Women's 19 / Men's 16.

How does sizing work?

After you place an order, Dovile contacts you personally to confirm your measurements. For the best fit, she may ask for your bare foot length and width - this ensures accurate shaping, especially for wide feet or unusual proportions. If you are unsure at any point, write before ordering. She is happy to guide you.

How do I clean a wool sauna hat or wool slippers?

Wool is naturally odor-resistant — frequent washing is not necessary. Simply air out after use. If needed, hand wash in cool or lukewarm water with mild wool detergent. Press out excess water gently, reshape while damp, and air dry flat away from direct heat. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. With proper care, dense Alpine wool maintains its structure for years of regular use.

Why choose undyed wool?

Undyed wool retains its natural lanolin - the fiber's built-in thermal regulator. Chemical dyeing strips lanolin and alters the fiber structure, reducing performance. In extreme heat, dyed wool also carries the risk of chemical pigments activating on the scalp. Undyed Alpine mountain wool contains no pigments, no fixing agents, no chemical finishes. Only fiber in its natural state.

Are sauna hats suitable for infrared and
steam saunas?

Yes - dense undyed wool is completely stable under infrared radiation. It contains no synthetic fibers that could degrade or off-gas under infrared heat. This matters more in infrared than traditional sauna because infrared penetrates materials more deeply. Feltforma sauna hats are used regularly in traditional, infrared, steam, and hot tent sauna environments.

Yes - wool insulates effectively even when completely wet, making it uniquely suited for contrast therapy. During cold plunge immersion, the dense fiber structure moderates the rate of heat loss from the scalp, reducing thermal shock. The same hat transitions from 176°F (80°C) sauna directly into cold water without losing its insulating properties or degrading. No synthetic materials means nothing harmful contacts your skin during immersion.

Can you wear a wool sauna hat for cold plunge and contrast therapy?

Can slippers be worn outdoors?

Slippers with natural caoutchouc rubber soles are suitable for indoor and light outdoor use - dry pavement, decking, garden paths. Felt-sole or natural latex sole versions are designed for indoor wear only. If you plan to wear your slippers outside regularly, select the natural caoutchouc rubber sole option when ordering.

Do you ship to the United States?

Yes - all US orders ship Delivered Duty Paid (DDP). No customs charges, no surprise fees, no forms to fill in. Your order arrives directly to your door. Hand-sculpted individually within 10–14 business days, delivered within 10–14 days after dispatch.
